PUTIN ON RUSSIA BLAME & WHY NATO EXISTS: “IT’S AN INSTRUMENT OF U.S. FOREIGN POLICY”
Jun 3, 2017 (VIDEO INTERVIEW BELOW)
Things that Vladimir Putin says, sometimes with humor, sometimes harshly, have already spread to the headlines of the world media. “Why does the West sit on our heads and chew bubble gum?” Will Russia help break up NATO? Who restricts Germany’s sovereignty?
Megan Kelly: All this squabbling around NATO, does it help Russia?
Vladimir Putin: “Does it help Russia? Well in the sense that NATO might fall apart, then that will help, but so far we do not see anything collapse. Now there’s no Warsaw Pact nor the Soviet Union, but NATO exists, and the question arises, why? There is only one answer. Whatever they say, it’s an instrument of U.S. foreign policy. If we speak about the last summit at the highest level, then the U.S. demands to increase military spending from its allies, and at the same time says that NATO does not intend to attack anyone, and if you’re not going to attack anyone, why increase military spending?
Here they say that NATO should fight terrorism more actively. We have just held a major international conference on security issues, and many representatives from the American continent, from Europe whisper in our ear: ‘we were urged in Brussels and Washington not to go to Russia.’ Well what is this? People who have such attitudes, what part of their body does the thinking? People ride in bulletproof cars, they are safe and they do not feel a threat to their own citizens, it seems.
We are constantly hearing that if Russia fulfills the Minsk Agreements, then everything will be fine. Russia cannot fulfill the Minsk agreements unilaterally, we are ready to help this, but we cannot do what the Kiev authorities are supposed to do. We agreed on the need to engage in the economic rehabilitation of these unrecognized republics, these territories. And what is occurring in real life? The radicals have totally blocked all movement of people and goods. President Poroshenko tried to lift the blockade, started a fight and shooting in the air, and still didn’t do anything, and after a day or two, even though he publicly stated that those who are responsible are almost criminals, and should be brought to order, when he understood that he is not able to do this, he went and himself made an executive order or a decree that he is joining and officially establishing this blockade.
Right now, they went and closed down all Russian news media, they don’t let in our artists, journalists, and now they closed down all social networks. You’re a journalist, where is the free exchange of information? Who provides it, including in Ukraine? Why is everyone silent about this? Why are all demands directed only at Moscow? This way we’ll never resolve a single issue If you started this mess yourselves, and you did significantly make this mess yourselves, then do at least something to end this problem.”
